Questions people ask first
Is my chat uploaded to your servers?
No. The export is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Chat text, attachments and file names are never sent to us. When you export a paid package, only your licence key and the SHA-256 fingerprint of the source file are sent, so each per-case licence can be tied to one file. A fingerprint cannot be reversed into the chat. See the Privacy & Security Architecture page for the full list of what does and does not leave your device.
Will a court accept this report?
No software can promise that. Admissibility depends on your jurisdiction, how the evidence is authenticated (usually through testimony from someone with knowledge), relevance, hearsay rules and the facts of your case. ScanMyChat prepares the conversation in an organized, verifiable form — chronological transcript, page numbering, attachment index and integrity fingerprints — which makes your attorney's work easier. What does the SHA-256 hash actually prove?
A hash is a fingerprint of a file. If someone recomputes it later and gets the same value, the file has not changed since it was fingerprinted. It does not prove who wrote a message, whether a message is true, or that the export is complete. The package fingerprints the original export (source hash), the transcript text and the final PDF separately so each can be checked independently with free standard tools.
Does it detect fake or edited messages?
It runs consistency checks and flags items for review — for example timestamps that go backwards, identical repeated messages, referenced attachments missing from the export, deleted-message markers and edited-message markers. A flag is a prompt to look closer, not a finding of tampering. Determining manipulation requires examination of the device or account, which may need a forensic examiner.
What can I try for free?

Does it work with iPhone and Android exports? Group chats?
Yes — iOS and Android WhatsApp exports, one-to-one and group chats, with or without media, in common date formats. Import the .zip WhatsApp creates (or the .txt if you exported without media).
What if it does not work for my file?
